Set 192 for victory, Takashinga 2 came agonisingly close, finishing on 189 all out in their 20 overs, as a fired-up Arineshto Vhezha’s five-wicket haul almost stole the game.
Earlier, Takashinga 1 piled on 191 for eight, led by a fluent 53 from Joylord Gumbie and 45 from Innocent Kaia at the top. Captain Roy Kaia added a brisk 36 off 21 balls, while Timycen Maruma gave the innings late firepower with an unbeaten 28 off just eight deliveries.
For Takashinga 2, Vhezha was outstanding with the ball, claiming five for 41, while Wishnenzy Chapfombo chipped in with three wickets, including the crucial scalps of Kaia and Gumbie.
In reply, Takashinga 2 were powered by Cephas Zhuwao, who blasted 54 off 23 balls, including five maximums, announcing his arrival on the crease by blugeoning Tapiwa Mufudza for 19 runs in the first over. Kudzai Maunze (31 off 16) and Marshall Takodza (27 off 20) kept the chase alive, but regular wickets pegged them back.
Veteran spinner Graeme Cremer (3/27) and Tanaka Chivanga (2/36) bowled key spells in the middle overs, ensuring Takashinga 1 stayed just ahead.
The match went down to the wire, with Takashinga 2 needing three runs from the final ball, but they fell short, bowled out for 189.
The win keeps Takashinga 1 unbeaten and on course for silverware after missing out on defending their National Premier League 45 overs crown, while Takashinga 2 were left ruing missed opportunities in a tight contest.
