TAKASHINGA Cricket Club is buzzing with pride as Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) appoints Richard Ngarava, one of their own, as the national team’s new Test and One-Day International (ODI) captain.
Ngarava, a standout left-arm fast bowler, joins an illustrious list of Takashinga alumni who’ve led Zimbabwe, including Tatenda Taibu, Prosper Utseya, Elton Chigumbura, Regis Chakabva, Hamilton Masakadza, and Chamu Chibhabha.
The appointments were confirmed at the ZC Board’s fourth-quarter meeting in Harare, with Ngarava set to lead the team alongside vice-captain Brian Bennett. ZC Chairperson Tavengwa Mukuhlani praised Ngarava’s growth as a player and leader.
“Ngarava has shown remarkable growth as a player and leader over the years,” Mukuhlani said.
“He commands respect within the dressing room and has consistently delivered for Zimbabwe across all formats.”
A proud product of Takashinga’s strong cricketing system, Ngarava has made his mark internationally, taking 100 T20I wickets and delivering match-winning performances. The appointment is part of ZC’s strategy to build a competitive national team.
