Retired hurt Chiwara triggers Patriots 2 batting misery

TAKASHINGA Patriots 2 lost to SOGO Rangers by 147 runs in their eighth match of the National Premier League at Old Georgians Sports Club in Groom ridge, Harare on Wednesday.

Patriots 2 stand-in skipper Daichi Nyandoro won the toss and opted to field, and the decision seemed to pay off early. Nyandoro and Brandon Senzere struck in back-to-back overs, removing Jared Basson and Nicholas Welch for just a single run each, leaving Rangers wobbling at 4/2 in the third over.

But the early success did not last. Tadiwanashe Marumani scored a quick 154, and Dion Myers added 110. Their third wicket partnership helped Rangers reach 333/9 in 45 overs.

Senzere led Patriots 2 attack with 4/63, while Nyandoro and Tanyaradzwa Kagumba got two wickets each. Shelton Mazvitorera took one.

Chasing 334, Takashinga 2 started well with Tino Chiwara hitting 51 off 46 balls, but he had to leave the field retired hurt, a blow from which the innings struggled to recover.

Marshall Takodza tried to keep the chase alive with 63, yet lacked the partnerships needed to mount a serious challenge. The rest of the batting faltered against Rangers’ bowling attack, and Patriots 2 were eventually bowled out for 186 in 41.1 overs losing by 147 runs.
