WELLINGTON Masakadza’s five-for inspired Takashinga Patriots 1 to a six-wicket win against defending champions Takashinga Patriots 2 in an NPL T20 Blast derby played in Highfield, Harare yesterday.
Patriots 2, were sent in to bat first after losing the toss, and were unable to capitalise on their strong start in the powerplay.

Patriots 2 innings then lost momentum as the Patriots 1’s disciplined bowling attack continued to make inroads.
Masakadza, picked up his five wickets for 30 runs from four overs. He accounted for the wickets of Brandon Mavuta, Ryan Kamwemba, Tinotenda Maposa, Tashinga Musekiwa and Knowledge Kaia caught by his elder brother Hamilton.
Muzarabani chipped in with three wickets as the Patriots 2 were bowled out for 128 in 17.4 overs.
Patriots’ 1 chase got off to a confident start, with the team putting on 59 runs in the first six overs for the loss of one wicket.
Tinashe Kamunhukamwe top-scored for Patriots 1 with a fluent 59 runs off 33 deliveries, while Wellington Masakadza came in handy with the bat scoring an unbeaten on 38 runs.
Patriots 1 chased down the target in 14.3 overs, winning the match by six wickets.
Defending champions Takashinga Patriots 2 have been hit hard by the defeat having now lost three games in the tournament so far.
Patriots 2 will need to regroup and find a way to regain their form if they are to defend their title while for Patriots 1, this victory boosts their confidence as they look to make a strong push for the playoffs.
