Muzarabani shines on the big stage

BLESSING Muzarabani has firmly established himself as the premier pace bowler of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, becoming the first Zimbabwean to secure consecutive Player of the Match awards in a single global tournament.

The journey to the top of the Group B standings began at the Singhalese Sports Club against Oman. Muzarabani set the tone for the Chevrons’ campaign with a display of ruthless efficiency.

Utilising his lofty frame to extract uncomfortable bounce on a docile surface, he punished the Oman top order with surgical precision. His final figures of three for 16 in four overs left the opposition in tatters, guiding Zimbabwe to a comfortable eight-wicket victory and earning him his first medallion of the tour.

However, it was his performance against Australia on Friday the 13th that elevated his status to a international icon.

Defending 169, Muzarabani produced a spell of high-octane pace and unerring accuracy. He struck in the very first over of the chase to remove Josh Inglis and later silenced the dangerous Tim David for a duck.

When Australia threatened a late-innings resurgence through Matt Renshaw, it was Takashinga bred Muzarabani who returned to deliver the knockout blow.

Finishing with career-best figures of four for 17, he spearheaded a 23-run victory.

Across eight overs of World Cup cricket in Sri Lanka, Muzarabani has claimed seven wickets for just 33 runs, maintaining an economy rate of 4.12.

The success of the Highfield based bowler highlights the developmental pedigree of Takashinga Cricket Club. His ability to consistently outclass world-class batters like Glenn Maxwell and Travis Head reinforces the club’s reputation as a factory for international talent.
