Mufudza Spins Takashinga 1 To Thumping Victory

EXCEPTIONAL spin bowling from Tapiwa Mufudza led Takashinga Patriots 1 to a resounding 10-wicket victory over Westside Cricket Club, marking their first win in the ongoing NPL T20 Blast at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday.

After suffering a narrow four-wicket loss to Rainbow at Old Hararians Sports Club on Tuesday, the change of venue brought about a change in fortune for Patriots 1.

Westside were bowled out for 73 runs in 17.3 overs with Mufudza taking five wickets for nine runs from his four-over spell.

Seamer Blessing Muzarabani made an impact with the last ball of the first over by clean bowling Westside opener Nigel Bonyongwe for a duck.

Mufudza’s exceptional seventh over saw him claim four wickets, starting with the dismissal of Tinashe Chiorah bowled, followed by Kevin Kasuza similarly two deliveries later, and then Tariro Makauyo, again bowled and finally Definate Mawadzi who Muzarabani caught as Westside slipped to 37/5 after seven overs.

Patriots 1 captain claimed Emmanuel Bawa caught the wicket of Chitimba whole Mashford Shungu off Wellington Masakadza’s bowling. Vincent Masekesa fell to a Masakadza brothers, Hamilton and Wellington combined effort, runout, while Tendai Chatara, the last of Westside’s wicket to fall was bowled out by Munashe Chiara.

Takashinga Patriots 1 openers, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, 43 off 23 and Joylord Gumbie 26 from 20 got the team over the line unbeaten inside 7.1 overs.
