Gladiators Dash Takashinga 1’s Title Dreams

TAPIWA Mufudza’s impressive 3/34 was not enough to salvage a win for Takashinga Patriots 1, as Gladiators romped to a 21-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-interrupted NPL T20 Blast encounter at Harare Sports Club on Friday evening.

Despite Mufudza’s best efforts, Gladiators’ solid batting and all-around performance proved too hot to handle.

Mufudza’s three wickets, which included the prized scalps of Lennox Chando and Tanatswa Chisvo, helped restrict Gladiators to 148 for eight. However, Milton Shumba’s unbeaten 47 off 38 balls anchored Gladiators’ innings, ensuring they posted a competitive total.

In response, Takashinga 1’s innings featured flashes of brilliance but ultimately ended in heartbreak. Innocent Kaia and Tinashe Kamunhukamwe put up 37 runs for the first wicket, but the Patriots’ middle order failed to capitalise. Shumba’s decisive two-for-13, coupled with Owen Muzondo and Wessly Madhevere’s two wickets apiece, sealed Gladiators’ spot in the final.

Rain and technical issues further frustrated Takashinga 1’s chances, as the revised target proved too steep a mountain to climb. With Gladiators set to face off against Rimuka their next opponents in the final on Saturday afternoon, Takashinga 1’s campaign ends on a sour note.
