Cremer reaps NPL rewards on return to domestic cricket

GRAEME Cremer, the former Zimbabwe captain, was recently crowned the NPL 45 Overs bowler of the tournament while playing for the country’s biggest club Takashinga 1 upon return from a seven-year sabbatical.

The spin maestro finished with 40 wickets in 12 innings at an economy rate of 3.77, averaging a ridiculous 9.33 in the NPL.

His impressive performance earned him the top spot in the NPL, and he’s relishing the success.

“Really enjoying being back, and having the opportunity to play again,” he said.

The veteran spinner chose Takashinga 1 for his NPL stint, citing the club’s talent pool as a major draw.

“I chose Takashinga 1 because a lot of our talent comes from there, and I believe I can help nurture the next future stars,” he explained.

The NPL has been a great platform for Cremer to get back into the groove of Zimbabwe cricket.

“The NPL was a great start for me, a nice introduction back into Zimbabwe Cricket,” he said.

The competition, he notes, is doing wonders for exposing young talent nationwide.

“The competition helps expose a lot of young talent throughout the country, and what I like is the fact that the young players are so keen to learn and ask questions, so It did make my job of sharing my experience much easier.”

Cremer’s experience and expertise have been invaluable to Takashinga 1, and his success is a testament to his enduring skill and passion for the game.

With his impressive NPL showing, Cremer’s hopes are high for a national team spot. He’s looking forward to making the cut for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

As Zimbabwe’s selectors pore over their options, Cremer’s name is sure to be on their radar. He has had his national team call up recently although he did not play any games but the noise has been made with the ball already.
