Chapfombo Magic Stuns Old Hararians

WISHNENZY Chapfombo four-wicket haul inspired Takashing 2 to a 99-run win against Old Hararians in a Vigne Cup League encounter played at Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfield on Sunday.

Chapfombo, fondly known as Madzibaba, has been terrorising opposition batsmen in recent weeks, and his seven-over spell against OH was no different.

Madzibaba took four wickets at a cost of just 17 runs, leaving the Old Hararians’ batsmen gasping for breath. The in-form all-rounder also contributed 30 runs from 72 balls, helping Takashinga 2 to a defendable 211 all out after being sent into bat by the visitors.

Simbarashe Mudzengerere was the top scorer for Takashinga, with 48 runs off 61 balls, his knock laced with six boundaries and a six. Tanyaradzwa Kagumba, the hard-hitting batsman smashed 44 runs off 34 balls, peppered with four fours and two sixes. The latter also made a significant contribution with the ball, picking three wickets to further dent Old Hararians’ hopes.

Takashinga’s bowlers, Takudzwa Chataira, Shelton Mazvitorera, and Mudzengerere, took a wicket each to further silence the opposition.

When Old Hararians came out to bat, they found themselves struggling against Takashinga’s bowling attack. Cephas Zhuwao’s 31 off 19 balls was the only bright spot in an otherwise poor batting performance. The visitors were eventually bowled out for 112 inside 25.4 overs, giving Takashinga 2 a convincing 99 run win on their home turf.

The win propels Takashinga 2 to third place on the log table behind leaders Gladiators and SOGO Rangers.
