TAKASHINGA 2 pulled off a stunning 112-run win to send log leaders SOGO Rangers crashing to their first defeat in the HMCA Vigne Cup 1st League on Sunday at Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfield.
The hosts, fuelled by Wishnenzy Chapfombo’s scintillating five-wicket haul, outplayed the visitors in every department to register a well-deserved win.
Takashinga 2 batsmen got off to a flying start, with opener Tino Chiwara blasting 52 runs off just 43 balls. Kupakwashe Muradzi chipped in with a steady 47 off 66 deliveries, as the hosts posted a respectable total, 252 all out.
Despite the efforts of SOGO Rangers’ captain Ryan Burl and Sean Bennett, who claimed three wickets each, Takashinga 2’s batting attack proved too hot to handle.
However, the real heroics were yet to come. Chapfombo, the Takashinga 2 bowler, wreaked havoc on the SOGO Rangers’ batting lineup, starting with the prized wicket of Jayden Schadenforf (48) in the 19th over. He went on to cause further damage, snaring the scalp of Jason Maritz, to complete his 10-over spell with an impressive 5/35.
Shelton Mazvitorera also had a brilliant day on the field, finishing with figures of 3/26, while Ryan Simbi chipped in with one wicket to further exacerbate the visitors’ troubles.
As SOGO Rangers’ batting woes continued, they were eventually bowled out for a paltry 140 in 35.2 overs, losing by a convincing 112 runs. The result marked Takashinga 2’s second win in the tournament, while SOGO Rangers slumped to their first defeat.
The victory will undoubtedly give Takashinga 2 a much-needed boost in confidence, as they look to climb up the league standings.
