TAKASHINGA Patriots’ star batsman Antum Naqvi scored his sixth first class century as Zimbabwe ‘A’ drew their three-day clash against the touring Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at Old Hararians Sports Club on Sunday.
Resuming on 19 for one in the second innings, still 87 runs behind, Naqvi carried the innings on his shoulders. Early wickets fell, with opener and Takashinga teammate Tanunurwa Makoni bowled for 13 and nightwatchman Vincent Masekesa caught for six, leaving Zimbabwe ‘A’ reeling at 35 for three.
Naqvi then took charge. He shared a 129th-run fourth wicket partnership with Clive Madande, who contributed 71, to push the team into the lead. Even as wickets tumbled again, Naqvi stood firm, refusing to let the innings collapse.
Tinotenda Maposa joined him later, scoring 74 and helping add 118 runs for the seventh wicket. In one over, Maposa hit 30 runs, but it was Naqvi who anchored the innings. He reached a well-crafted 108 from 170 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes, and guided Zimbabwe ‘A’ to 326 for eight.
By the time Naqvi left the field, the draw was secured.
