Takashinga consolidate poll position with routine win

TAKASHINGA Patriots 1 consolidated their position on top of the NPL T20 Blast table with a comfortable 76-run win over Alex Cricket Club at Old Hararians Sports Club on Sunday.

Takashinga 1 are now on six points from three matches, with Gladiators, Rimuka, and Alex following closely on four points.

Manicaland Express Tendai Chatara rattled through Alex’s batting lineup, picking up four wickets for 12 runs in his four-over spell as Takashinga easily defended their tally of 162/8 after being put to bat first. Serial performer Graeme Cremer took three wickets, Kudai Matigimu picked up two, while Tapiwa Mufudza claimed one.

Alex had to look to tailender Tinashe Muchawaya to avert embarrassment. Muchawaya top-scored for his side with 38 runs from 30 balls, batting at number nine. He was the only Alex batsman to record a double-digit score. They were eventually bundled out for a meager 86 runs inside 14.1 overs.

For Takashinga, skipper Roy Kaia led from the front with 41 off 28 balls, hitting five fours and a six. Opener Tinashe Kamunhukamwe scored 20, Joylord Gumbie 19, and Innocent Kaia 18. Meanwhile, Zubair Khan picked three wickets for 20 runs from four overs for Alex, and his captain Ahsan Aqil Ali took two.
