Welcome to the home of the patriots

Welcome to Takashinga Cricket Club, the home of cricket in Highfield, Harare. We are a proud club with a rich history and a bright future. We have produced some of the finest cricketers in Zimbabwe, such as Andy Flower and Tatenda Taibu. Our club ground is located at the Zimbabwe grounds in Highfield, where we play competitive matches in the national and regional leagues. We are one of the strongest cricket clubs in Zimbabwe, and we aim to continue our tradition of excellence and passion for the game.

The history of Takashinga

Takashinga cricket club was founded in 1990 by Givemore Makoni and Stephen Mangongo, who wanted to start a cricket club for the black community in Zimbabwe. They initially used the facilities of Churchill High School and named their club Old Winstonians, after the school’s former name. However, in 2001, they changed their name to Takashinga, which means “we are brave and we will fight all the way” in Shona, to reflect their identity and spirit. They also moved to their own home ground in the Highfields, where they received support from Bill Flower, the father of Zimbabwean cricket legend Andy Flower. In 2003, Takashinga cricket club was officially opened by West Indian cricket star Brian Lara, who visited the club during his team’s tour of Zimbabwe. Since then, Takashinga has become one of the most successful and influential cricket clubs in Zimbabwe, producing many national and international players, such as Andy Flower, Tatenda Taibu, Hamilton Masakadza, and Prosper Utseya. Takashinga cricket club is proud of its history and its contribution to the development of cricket in Zimbabwe.
