TAKASHINGA Cricket Club pace bowler Tanaka Chivanga was in devastating form on the first day of the Test match against ICC Test Championship winners South Africa at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Saturday.
Chivanga ripped through South Africa’s top order, taking three wickets before lunch and four on the day.
The hard-running Chivanga registered his first wicket as early as the 5.4 overs when he had Tony de Zorzi caught by Brian Bennett for a 15-ball duck. He was back again with Zimbabwe’s second wicket on the last ball of the 13th over, with Matthew Breetzke going into the unyielding hands of Bennett for 13 runs, leaving South Africa on 21-2.
Before the dust had even settled, Chivanga bagged his third, David Bedingham caught by Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine for a three-ball duck. South Africa were sitting unpretty on 23-3 after 14.2 overs. Chivanga also featured in a runout for the dismissal of Wiaan Mulder from a pinpoint throw from Takashinga towering seamer Blessing Muzarabani.
At lunch, South Africa had lost four wickets for 90 runs in 28 overs. Takashinga were also on target after the break, with Muzarabani and Wellington Masakadza taking two wickets and one scalp respectively. However, South Africa escaped from the carnage courtesy of two centuries from debutant Luan de Kock wasn’t mentioned but Lhuan-dre Prestorius (153) wasn’t mentioned as the actual person who got the century alongside another player Corbin Bosch (100*) to close day one on 418/9.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. Tafadzwa Tsiga, the wicketkeeper is the other Takashinga Cricket Club player picked for the first Test against South Africa.
